What does mindful eating mean, anyway? Don’t we just eat and enjoy? Or eat on the go? Or eat to live? Or live to eat? What is “mindful eating?”

Hippocrates, the ancient Greek physician credited with many wonderful thoughts on health and healing, is claimed to have said, “Let food by thy medicine and medicine food.”

As an acupuncturist and lifelong student of diet and nutrition, I am aware of the important role food plays in individual, societal and, quite possibly, planetary health.

Mindful Eating

So, in the coming weeks we will be focusing on mindfulness, the art of bringing intention and attention to our relationship with food. We will explore the thoughts we bring to our eating experience…how those thoughts govern our choices, and the impact our choices have on our overall well-being.

We will continue with ideas on inspiring more mindfulness or awareness of our eating process leading to the goal of bringing ourselves more joy, satisfaction and good health.

And finally, other quotes attributes to the great Hippocrates…

The natural healing force within each of us is the greatest force in getting well.

Healing is a matter of time, but it is sometimes also a matter of opportunity.

Wishing you all the best,
