If we define mindful eating as eating with intention and attention, we can expand upon these ideas to include something like eating with the intention to care for ourselves, and eating with enough attention to really notice our food and how it might be affecting our body/mind/emotions.

A super simple way to begin this practice is to pose the question “Am I hungry?”

It seems simple, but how often do we eat because it’s time, it looks good, we are at a party and that’s just what we do, someone will be upset with us if we don’t, we are upset and we think it will make us feel better, we are bored, we are craving something, it’s late and we are tired, we don’t have much time and had better eat now, or we are full, but there is more on the plate and we don’t want to be wasteful, etc?

Simply pausing for a moment to ask ourselves this question invites the opportunity to be more mindful, more aware of our cues and triggers, and from there, more creative with our choices.

More to come!

Wishing you all the best,
